8. How do you claim?
You can claim ESA online at: www.gov.uk/employment-support-allowance/how-to-claim . If you cannot claim online, you can call the Jobcentre Plus new claims helpline (0800 055 6688; Relay UK 18001 then 0800 055 6688). If you are deaf and use British Sign Language, you may be able to claim using a video relay service; details are on the website.
In Northern Ireland you can claim ESA online at: www.nidirect.gov.uk/services/claim-new-style-employment-and-support-allowance . If you cannot claim online, you can call 0800 085 6318 (textphone: 0800 328 3419).
You should have the following available when you start:
    ■your national insurance number;
    ■your fit note – see Chapter 10(9) and below;
    ■your GP’s name, address and telephone number;
    ■if you have one, your bank or building society account number and sort code;
    ■if you have (or recently have had) an employer, their address and telephone number and the dates of your employment (or the last day you worked);
