7. ESA rates

7. ESA rates
The level of ESA you receive is determined by whether you are in the
‘assessment phase’
or the
‘main phase’
of your claim.
Assessment phase
– During the 13-week assessment phase
(see
2 above
), you are paid the
‘basic allowance’
of ESA. If you are aged under 25, you are paid a lower rate of the basic allowance.
ESA can be paid at the ‘main phase’ rate (which may include an additional component – see
below
) during the assessment phase in the following circumstances:
■
you are not expected to live more than 12 months and are claiming ESA (or have asked for the award to be superseded or revised) for that reason;
■
your claim links to an earlier ESA award (see
11 below
) in which you were already receiving one of the additional components or were placed in the work-related activity group (as long as your previous award did not end because you were found not to have a limited capability for work);
■
your claim links to an earlier ESA award that ended because you were found not to
