When your supply is connected
If your home has been previously supplied with electricity, you should be given an appointment within two working days for your supply to be connected and a meter installed. If the appointment is not made within the specified time, you are entitled to automatic compensation of £65.1Reg 9(2) and Sch 1 E(CSP) Regs If the appointment is made and not kept, you are entitled to automatic compensation of £65.
If your home has never previously had a supply of electricity, and you make a written request for an estimate of the charges of connection, this should be sent within five working days if the work is simple, or within 10 working days if the work is complicated. You are entitled to a compensation payment if the estimate is not sent within these time limits.2Reg 12(2) and Sch 1 E(CSP) Regs For a contract supplier, connection times depend on how quickly you respond to its offer of a contract.
If you experience unreasonable delays in getting your supply connected, contact Citizens Advice consumer service.
