Once CDP has been introduced, to make a claim, call Social Security Scotland (0800 182 2222). When you make this call, the claim should be registered. At time of writing, the claim-form has not been published. However, it will cover broadly the same areas as the DLA claim-form (see Box B.3 in Chapter 3). Online claims should also be available.

Date of claim – Once your application has been registered, you have six weeks in which to complete the claim. If you do so within the six weeks, your child’s benefit can be backdated to the date of first contact. If you are outside the six weeks, benefit can still be backdated if there was a good reason for the delay; when you complete the claim you should explain the reasons why it was late.1DACYP(S) Regs, reg 24
