Post-separation economic abuse
Economic abuse can continue beyond a relationship breakdown. It does not require physical proximity – eg, it can include withholding child maintenance payments or sending money via bank transfers with abusive references.
Some abusers get their benefits paid into the abused person’s account as a way of justifying further contact after separation. To get around this, contact CPAG, which has an arrangement with the DWP to deal with this issue on a case-by-case basis. See cpag.org.uk/unwanted-payments-abusers-benefit-your-account for more details.
