Choose a strategy for non-priority debts
The impact of a debt strategy on a client’s ability to continue trading depends on several factors and varies from business to business. The type of impact can depend on the client’s business status and may also be affected by the type of business they run - eg, if the business needs a certain type of licence to trade, some strategies may put this at risk (ie, if they are in the licensing trade). You will also need to consider whether any agreements essential to the business, such as a premises lease, could be terminated by the creditor if the client enters a particular debt strategy. If there is any doubt about how a debt strategy could affect a client’s business, signpost the client to specialist advice.
