The housing costs amount can be included in your universal credit award if you are liable (see 3 below ) to pay rent (see 7 below ) or service charges (see 5 below ) for the accommodation that you occupy as your home (see 4 below ).

If you are liable to pay rent, you will be eligible for the housing costs amount for renters ( see 7 to 17 below). This will still be the case if you are also liable to pay service charges.

If you are only liable to pay service charges, you will be eligible for the housing costs amount for owner-occupiers (see 18 and 19 below ).
