Full-time students cannot usually get help towards their rent from universal credit or housing benefit. There are some exceptions if the student is:

•on a part-time course; or

•disabled; or

•responsible for children; or

•under 21 and taking a non-higher education course such as Highers; or

•receiving a state pension; or

•leaving the course temporarily because of illness or caring responsibilities; or

•living with a partner who is not a student.
