2. Tuition fees
Since 2008, full-time students who are ‘ordinarily resident’ in Scotland and study for a first degree in a Scottish college or university have their fees paid by the Scottish government.1The Education (Fees) (Scotland) Regulations 2022 The Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) pays fees directly to the college or university. These are non-repayable, but students must apply every year. If they do not have a funding arrangement in place, they may need to pay the tuition fees (£1,820) themselves.
Scottish undergraduates studying elsewhere in the UK can apply to SAAS for a tuition fee loan of up to £9,250.
Part-time students with an annual income below £25,000 can apply for a part-time fee grant. See the SAAS website for more information.
Tuition fees for most full-time postgraduate diplomas and masters are also non-repayable if the student ordinarily lives in Scotland.
