School transport
Local authorities have a duty to provide free transport for a pupil under 16 if they attend the ’nearest suitable school’ and live at least two miles away (if they are aged under eight) or three miles away (if they are eight or older). In addition, children must be given free transport if there is not a safe walking route, irrespective of how far from the school they live.
