Direct earnings attachments and the Debt Arrangement Scheme
Although the Debt Arrangement Scheme (DAS) is not insolvency, it is a statutory debt repayment programme and as such the DWP and local authorities will not recover overpayment of benefits if the client has entered into the DAS, as long as the debt is included in the scheme. When the DWP or local authority is informed of the inclusion of the overpayment debt in the DAS, they recall the DEA from the employer and any monies taken after this are refunded to the client.
