The summary warrant recovery process
When a summary warrant is issued, 10 per cent of the debt amount is added to the total amount of the debt. The summary warrant, once issued, can be used by the creditor to instruct sheriff officers to implement the court order. Sheriff officers serve the client with a formal charge for payment (even for a bank arrestment). The charge for payment does not need to be given to the client directly and may just be posted through the client’s letterbox. At the same time, the creditor must also issue a Debt Advice and Information Package.
The charge for payment gives the client 14 days to pay the debt in full. If the debt is not paid within 14 days, the sheriff officers can commence the following diligence:
    attachment;
    money attachment;
    arrestment;
    earnings arrestment.
