1. Introduction
There is a different system for decision making and challenging decisions for the benefits administered by ‘Social Security Scotland’ (SSS). If you are unhappy with a decision (technically called a ‘determination’), you can ask for a ‘redetermination’. Appeals against redeterminations are made to the First-tier Tribunal for Scotland in the Social Security Chamber (the tribunal). Appeals against decisions of tribunals are made to the Upper Tribunal for Scotland. Administration for both of these tribunals is carried out by the ‘Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service’.
