Variable rate credit meter
A variable rate meter operates on the same principle as a standard meter but gives more than one reading display – ie, to show daytime, normal or peak electricity use, overnight or low off-peak use and (if appropriate) controlled circuit use. Customers with a variable rate credit meter will have either one or two meters showing up to three sets of numbers. The majority of these meters will have electronic or digital displays showing rows of numbers. A few customers may still have two dial display meters installed – one each for peak and off-peak consumption.
