Trust funds and foundations
Some energy companies have trust funds to help customers who are in debt or may fund projects which provide support for the fuel poor.
British Gas and Scottish Gas
The British Gas Energy Trust Fund is open to customers and non-customers of British Gas and Scottish Gas with current debt. It offers grants to clear arrears of gas/electricity bills and other essential domestic bills or purchase of essential household items.
See britishgasenergytrust.org.uk or telephone 0121 348 7797 for more information.
E.ON
The E.ON Energy Fund aims to assist existing or previous E.ON customers in low-income households (a household income of less than £16,190 a year). The fund can help pay current or final energy bills arrears, from a previous supplier. It can also help customers buy replacement white goods such as cookers, fridges, freezers and washing machines – and also help to replace and repair gas boilers.
Call 03303 80 10 90 for more information.
ScottishPower
ScottishPower’s Hardship Fund can help its customers on a low income or on certain benefits with energy debts. Apply at sedhardship.fund or telephone 0808 800 0128. The ScottishPower Foundation also provides funding to registered charities, including those for the prevention or relief of poverty and help for those with a disability or other disadvantage.
