The disability premium does not apply to pension credit. Nor does it apply to housing benefit if you are the claimant and have (or can be treated as having) a limited capability for work for an employment and support allowance (ESA) award (see Chapter 12(2) -(3)). However, if you are the ESA claimant and you have a partner who claims housing benefit instead, and one of you gets a qualifying benefit (see below), then the disability premium could be awarded.

For a single claimant aged 16 or over, the disability premium is £44.85 a week. For a couple, the disability premium is £64 a week, whether one or both of the couple count as disabled.

The disability premium can be awarded in addition to any enhanced disability premium, carer premium or severe disability premium that is payable. The disability premium is payable only while the person who qualifies is under pension age (see Chapter 42(2) ).
