12. Payments for your home
Any payment from a scheme set up or approved by the government to support someone with a disability to live independently is disregarded.
Payments under a mortgage protection policy are not listed in the universal credit regulations and can therefore be disregarded.
Income from tenants and lodgers – Payments you receive from tenants if you have sub-let part of your home, or from lodgers if you provide board
and lodging in your home, are disregarded as income, but count as earnings if you are running your home as a business (
see 3 and
4 above ). Any such payments you receive for property that you do not live in are treated as capital.
