The amount you get may be affected by earnings or by an occupational or personal pension. Only your earnings (not those of your partner or other family members) are taken into account. Payment is not affected by other income or savings you have.

If one or more of these sources of money mean you are not paid benefit, you will still remain ‘entitled’ (unless your earnings exceed your ‘prescribed amount’ – see below). Any day for which you are entitled but not paid will count towards your 182 days of entitlement (see 9 below ).

Your weekly earnings from employment or self-employment are deducted in full from the amount of benefit due, apart from an earnings disregard of £5 (or £20 if you are working as a part-time firefighter, auxiliary coastguard, lifeboat operator or member of the reserve forces).
