Funeral support payment

Funeral support payment is a one-off grant to help with the costs of a funeral. It replaced the social fund funeral payment in Scotland and is paid by SSS.

The client must be responsible for the funeral arrangements, it must be reasonable for them to have accepted responsiblity and they must be receiving a qualifying benefit such as UC or PC for example. Some of the assets of the person who has died can be deducted from the funeral support payment. Clients can claim a funeral support payment at any time from the date the person died until six months after the funeral.
