Where there is no estate
If there is no estate, the deceased’s partner or family cannot be held liable for debts if they were not taken out jointly or if they did not act as a guarantor.
Creditors should be contacted and informed of the death. They can be sent a copy of the death certificate. They must also be informed that there is no money in the estate and asked to confirm that the account is closed.
