Getting advice
Your local Citizens Advice can tell you what is available locally and can advise on multiple debts. There is also a national telephone helpline, National Debtline (see nationaldebtline.org). The Money Advice Trust produces a comprehensive self-help guide for dealing with multiple debts. The guide includes a very useful sheet to help you work out your own financial statement. Copies of this pack can be obtained from your local free advice agency and is also available from moneyadvicetrust.org.
You can also consult solicitors, law centres or advice agencies which provide debt advice. Certain charities also operate assistance schemes. Make sure that any advice you get is free and genuinely independent of your creditors.
