Cancelling a contract
The normal rule in contract law is that if you sign a contract you are bound by the terms and conditions in the contract, even if you have not read it.1See L’Estrange v Graucob [1934] 2 KB 394 Ofgem regulations ensure that there is a 14-day cooling off period, from the date of signing a contract, during which you have the right to cancel your contract. Switching normally takes 21 days to complete.
If a contract for the supply of electricity also includes providing goods or services (eg, energy efficiency measures), the charges for each must be separately identified.2Condition 22.4 SLC
