Switching supplier when your supplier goes out of business
If your supplier goes out of business, Ofgem will move you to a new supplier through the ‘supplier of last resort’ process. The new supplier will contact you with details of your new tariff. Once with that new supplier you can switch to another supplier or to a different tariff in the usual way. You will not have to pay an exit fee/termination penalty. Ofgem’s advice is not to switch until the new supplier has contacted you. This will make the process smoother and make it easier to get any credit balance you may have refunded.1ofgem.gov.uk/information-consumers/energy-advice-households/what-happens-if-your-energy-supplier-goes-bust
