Box L.5: War Pensions scheme

Box L.5: War Pensions scheme
This scheme remains in place for those with existing awards on 6.4.05, and for new claimants whose injury, ill health or bereavement was caused by service before 6.4.05. You do not need to have been on active service when the injury or illness was caused, providing it is linked to your time in service. You can claim for illnesses suffered during service which have caused permanent damage and also for pre-existing conditions which have worsened through service.
How much can you get?
The amount of your basic war pension depends on your degree of disability, assessed on a percentage basis as in the Industrial Injuries scheme (see
Box L.2
in Chapter 43). If your assessment is 20% or more, a weekly pension is paid.
If your assessment is less than 20%, you will receive a one-off lump-sum gratuity, unless the claim is for noise-induced sensorineural hearing loss. No payment can be made for sensorineural hearing loss alone, but if your assessment is 20% or more for
