4. Additional amount for children
An additional amount
is included in your award for each child or qualifying young person you are responsible for. A child is someone under the age of 16. A
‘qualifying young person’
is someone aged from 16 to 19 who is in full-time, non-advanced education or approved, unwaged training. The rules on who counts as a qualifying young person and the circumstances in which you are treated as responsible for a child or qualifying young person are the same as for universal credit; see
Chapter 15(4)
for details.

How much is the additional amount for children? –
The basic rate is normally £69.98 a week for each child or qualifying young person you are responsible for. However, the basic rate for an eldest or only child born before 6.4.17 is £81.07.
A further amount is included for each child or qualifying young person who is disabled, payable at two different rates: a higher rate of £118.46 a week and a lower rate of £37.93. The elig
