20. How much do you get?
The steps below show how your entitlement to housing benefit is worked out. We first give the steps if you are on universal credit or the guarantee credit of pension credit, then the steps if you are not.
If you (or your partner) are on universal credit or the guarantee credit of pension credit
Step 1: Work out your eligible rent
Housing benefit is worked out on your weekly eligible rent; this can be less than your actual rent (see 8 above ).
Step 2: Deduct amounts for non-dependants
If you have one or more non-dependants in your home, your housing benefit is reduced by flat-rate amounts (though there are exceptions to this). For who counts as a non-dependant and other details, see 21 below .
Step 3: Amount of benefit per week
Housing benefit equals your weekly eligible rent minus any amounts for non-dependants.
Example: If your weekly eligible rent is £200 and you have no non-dependants, the weekly amount of your housing benefit is £200. But if you have one non-dep
