4. Housing costs that housing benefit cannot meet
You cannot get housing benefit towards any of the following costs, but some may be met by support for mortgage interest loans (see
Chapter 24 ):
■payments you make on your home if you own it or have a long tenancy (over 21 years or a life tenancy created in writing), except for a shared ownership tenancy;
■payments you make in a co-ownership scheme where, if you left, you would be entitled to a payment based on the value of your home;
■rent if you are a Crown tenant;
■hire purchase or credit sale agreements;
■conditional sale agreements (unless for land); and
■payments for a dwelling owned by your partner.
