A housing costs amount for owner-occupiers cannot be included in your universal credit award if you (or your partner) have any earnings. This is irrespective of the nature of the work, how much you earn or how long you work for. If you have a shared-ownership tenancy, you can still get a housing costs amount towards rent and service charge payments.

A housing costs amount for owner-occupiers cannot be included in your universal credit award during a ‘qualifying period’.

In the case of a new award for universal credit, the qualifying period will last for the first nine consecutive monthly assessment periods in which you receive universal credit and, were it not for the qualifying period, would qualify for the housing costs amount.
