Box E.1: Claim not required: change in status
You do not need to make a claim for universal credit if:
    ■you were claiming universal credit jointly with your partner (see 3 in this chapter ), that award is terminated because you have split up*;
    ■you and your new partner were claiming universal credit as two single people, those awards are terminated because you have formed a couple* and universal credit may now be awarded as a joint claim;
    ■you were claiming universal credit as a single person, that award is terminated because you have formed a couple (your new partner was not previously claiming universal credit) and universal credit may now be awarded as a joint claim; or
    ■you were claiming universal credit jointly with your partner and that award is terminated because your partner has died.
* You may need to provide the DWP with evidence.
