4. Aged 16 or 17
If you are aged 16 or 17, you may qualify for universal credit if one of the following applies:
    ■You have a limited capability for work (see Chapter 12(2) ).
    ■You have a fit note (see Chapter 10(9) ) and are waiting for a work capability assessment (see Chapter 12 ).
    ■You have regular and substantial caring responsibilities for a severely disabled person (see Chapter 15(7) ).*
    ■You are responsible for a child aged under 16.
    ■You have a partner who is responsible for a child or qualifying young person (see Chapter 15(4) ) and they meet the other basic conditions (see 2 above ).
    ■You are pregnant and it is 11 weeks or less before the week in which your baby is due.*
    ■You have had a baby within the last 15 weeks.*
    ■You do not have parental support (see below ).*
* These do not apply if you have left local authority care.
