For universal credit and JSA, you can be given a medium-level sanction if you fail to search for work (see Chapter 17(5) ) or to be available for work (see Chapter 17(7) ), as required, without good reason (see 9 below ).

The length of the sanction period will depend on whether any previous sanctionable failures can be taken into account. In this case, a medium-level JSA sanctionable failure will be counted as a medium-level universal credit sanctionable failure and vice versa.

In the case of universal credit, the length of the sanction period will also depend on your age when the sanctionable failure took place.

For JSA and, if you were aged 18 or over on the date that the sanctionable failure took place, universal credit, the sanction period will be a fixed period
