12. Qualifying periods

12. Qualifying periods
To qualify for ADP, you
must meet the qualifying periods conditions. There are two: the
‘backwards condition’
and the
‘forwards condition’
. These conditions will not apply if you are terminally ill (see
22 below
).

Backwards condition
You must pass the disability test(s) (see
11 above
) throughout the 13 weeks before the claim. The claim can be made during this 13-week period, but payment will not start until the qualifying period has been served.

If you re-claim ADP within two years of the end of a previous award of ADP, child disability payment (CDP), disability living allowance* (DLA) or personal independence payment (PIP) for substantially the same physical or mental condition(s) (or a new condition that developed as a result of the one for which the previous award was made), the claims are linked. This means if you have a relapse, you do not have to re-serve the 13-week qualifying period. Yo
