Adult disability payment (ADP) is a benefit for adults in Scotland who have a physical or mental disability and need help taking part in everyday life or find it difficult to get around. It is, to a large extent, modelled on personal independence payment (PIP), the benefit it has replaced.

ADP is tax free, is not means tested and you do not need to have paid national insurance contributions to get it. It is not affected by earnings or other income. It is almost always paid in addition to other social security benefits. ADP has two parts: a daily living component and a mobility component. Where the rules are the same as those for PIP, we refer to the relevant place in Chapter 4.

ADP can give you access to other types of help – the list is similar to that for PIP (see Box B.6 in Chapter 4).

How much is it? – The rates of payment for ADP are the same as for PIP (see Chapter 4(5) ).
