Other benefits or help – DLA can usually be paid in full in addition to other social security benefits. DLA is ignored as income for universal credit. See Box B.1 for how an award of DLA to your child may help you qualify for other types of help.

The care component may be taken into account in non-social security means tests, such as in charging for care and support services (see Chapter 35(6) ). However, the mobility component can only be taken into account if the law (not policy or practice) governing a means test specifically states that the mobility component should count.
