The Human Rights Act 1998 incorporates into UK law the rights guaranteed under the European Convention on Human Rights. Arguments based on Convention rights can be made in social security appeals. Decision makers and tribunals must interpret the law in a way that is consistent with the Act as far as they are able. You should seek legal advice if you think it may apply in your case.
