If you have an accident at work, report the details as soon as possible to your employer. Do this even if things don’t seem serious at first (eg a cut can turn septic). An accident book or an equivalent online record must be kept at any workplace where 10 or more people usually work.

In most cases it will be clear that an ‘accident’ has happened and that it was ‘industrial’, but case law has expanded these concepts to include less obvious situations (see Box L.1 ).
