Renewable Heat Incentive
The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is a payment for people living in England, Wales or Scotland for generating heat from renewable sources. RHI payments are partly intended to offset the cost of installing and running a renewable system. Instalment payments are made quarterly for seven years. The scheme closed to new applicants on 31 March 2022.
You are paid for every kilowatt hour (kWh) of energy produced. The level of payment varies depending on the technology and the system size.
The eligible technologies (only specific makes and models1Product eligibility list at ) are: •biomass (wood burning) boilers and biomass pellet stoves;
•air source heat pumps;
•ground source heat pumps;
•solar thermal panels.
