Consent for deductions
The client’s consent is required before deductions (including for arrears) are made for fuel costs and water charges from their UC if the total amount deducted for these payments exceeds 25 per cent of their UC standard allowance and child elements.1Sch 6 para 3(3) UC,PIP,JSA&ESA(C&P) Regs Otherwise, the DWP can make deductions from UC without consent.
Consent is also required before deductions are made from IS, income-based JSA, income-related ESA or PC for rent arrears, service charges for fuel and water, fuel costs (including arrears), water charges (including arrears) and repayment of integration loans in certain circumstances.2Sch 9 para 8(2) and (4) SS(C&P) Regs
