Dealing with rent arrears at court
Debt Arrangement Scheme (DAS): does not stop an eviction as it just gives time to pay the arrears. However, some landlords may agree to stop any recovery/eviction action if the arrears are included with a DAS Debt Payment Programme.
Insolvencies: this may depend on each local authority or housing association and if decree was already been granted. In the case of sequestration, many registered social landlords may agree to allow the tenant to retain their tenancies and agree to write-off any rent arrears up to the date of sequestration.
Recall: you could ask the sheriff to recall the decree if the debt is subject to an insolvency or DAS.
Grants: some organisation or charities may award a grant/hardship payments to pay off the arrears to stop an eviction.
Negotiate: it is never too late to try to negotiate a payment option to pay off the arrears.
