2. Do you qualify?
To qualify for income-based JSA, you must meet the basic qualifying conditions for JSA set out in
Chapter 13(2). In addition, you must meet all of the following conditions.
■You must have no income, or your income is below your ‘applicable amount’ (see
5 below).
■You (and your partner) must not be claiming income support, income-related employment and support allowance or pension credit.
■You cannot have more than £16,000 in savings or capital.
■If you have a partner, they must not be working for 24 or more hours a week (see
3 below).
■You must be aged 18 or over; or aged 16 or 17 and pass other tests (for details, see Disability Rights Handbook 46th edition, page 131).

You must not be subject to immigration control (see
Chapter 55(2)) and must satisfy the habitual residence test (see
Chapter 55(4)).
