The National Minimum Wage Act
This Act provides that the minimum hourly rate of pay in any job should be:
•if you are aged 23 or over, £10.42. The government calls this the ‘national living wage’;
•if you are aged 21–22, £10.18;
•if you are aged 18–20, £7.49;
•if you are aged 16 or 17, £5.28;
•if you are in the first year of employment or are under 19, and you are employed under a contract of apprenticeship (or treated as if you are), £5.28.
