The Working Time Regulations
These regulations are designed to protect the health and safety of workers. The main rules are:
•a limit on the hours in the average working week;
•minimum annual holiday entitlement;
•entitlement to breaks from work (both daily breaks and a longer break once a week) and to rest periods while at work;
•special protection for night workers.
This Handbook cannot cover the detailed rules nor the complicated system of exceptions to them. Get specialist advice if you think your employer is breaking these rules.
