6. What is your applicable amount?

Your applicable amount is the amount of money the law says you need to live on. It consists of:

•a personal allowance – for either a single claimant or a couple (see 7 below);

•an additional component – normally, only if you are placed in the support group (see 7 below);

•premiums – flat-rate extra amounts if you meet certain conditions (see 8 below); and

•certain housing costs (see Chapter 29).1ESA Regs, reg 67
