Chapter 67: Coming from abroad: immigration status
This chapter covers:
1. Immigration status (
here)
2. Benefits and tax credits affected by immigration status (
here)
3. Partners and children (
here)
4. National insurance numbers and contributions (
here)
5. Asylum seekers and refugees (
here)
The rules in this chapter can apply if you, your partner and child are
not all European Economic Area (EEA) or British nationals. If you are all EEA (or British) nationals, until 31 December 2020, the rules in this chapter do not apply to you. However, if you, your partner or child are an EEA national and arrived in the UK after that date, get advice because, at the time of writing, the government’s intention was to align the benefit rules for EEA nationals arriving in the UK from 1 January 2021 with those of non-EEA nationals, but no details were available. In all cases, you must satisfy the residence and presence requirements in
Chapter 68.
