3. Premiums and additional amounts
Premiums are added to your personal allowance and are intended to help with the extra expenses you have as a result of your age, having a disability and, in some circumstances, children. Some premiums are not included in some of the means-tested benefits. Pension credit (PC) does not include premiums, but has additional amounts for severe disability, carers and children.
Note: if you or your partner have reached pension age (see here) and are not getting income support (IS), income-based jobseeker’s allowance (JSA), income-related employment and support allowance (ESA) or universal credit (UC), your housing benefit (HB) can only include the family, disabled child, enhanced disability for a child, severe disability and carer premiums.1Sch 3 paras 3 and 6-9 HB(SPC) Regs In these circumstances, your HB cannot include a disability premium.
