4. New state pension

4. New state pension
The new state pension is based on your own national insurance (NI) contribution record. See
Box K.1
for the contribution conditions. You will not build up any additional state pension (see
5 below
) under the new state pension; from 6.4.16 your NI contributions or credits go towards a single-tier pension.
If you meet the contribution conditions in full, you will receive a pension of £241.30 a week; if not, you may be entitled to a reduced amount based on your
‘qualifying years’
(see
Box K.1
).

Deferring your pension
– If you defer
drawing your state pension for at least nine weeks, it is increased by 1% for every nine weeks you defer drawing it. The extra amount will be paid with your regular state pension payments once you start drawing them. You cannot claim the extra amount as a lump sum. Contact the Pension Service (see
6 below
), if you want to defer drawing your pension.
