6. Disability-related benefits and expenditure

6. Disability-related benefits and expenditure
Disability-related benefits
These may
be taken into account as income and are defined as:
■
disability living allowance (DLA) care component;
■
personal independence payment (PIP) daily living component;
■
attendance allowance;
■
pension age disability payment;
■
constant attendance allowance;
and
■
exceptionally severe disablement allowance.
The DLA or PIP
mobility component, the war pensioner’s mobility supplement and armed forces independence payment are disregarded.

Disability-related expenditure
If disability-related
benefits are taken into account, the local authority should assess your
‘disability-related expenditure’
; guidance gives examples of the main types, including expenditure on special clothing or footwear, additional bedding costs, or special dietary needs. Guidance also states that the care and support plan (see
Chapter 34(3)
) may be a good starting point for considering what is necessary disabi
