Pension credit can help with certain housing costs if you are an owner-occupier. This chapter focuses on the help towards housing costs available through this benefit. If you are getting universal credit, your award of that benefit may include an amount to cover housing costs, the ‘housing costs amount’ – see
Chapter 20(2)

When can housing costs be included?
– Housing costs can be included in your award if you or your partner are liable for housing costs at the home you normally live in and the type of housing cost is covered. See
2 below
for details.

Non-dependants
The amount towards your housing costs is reduced if you have any
‘non-dependants’
living with you (eg adult son or daughter, friend or relative). The rules and amounts are similar to those for housing benefit (see
