8. How do you get SSP?

8. How do you get SSP?
To get SSP, you must notify your employer that you are off sick. Your employer can decide how and when you do this, and must inform you of the process. They cannot demand that you notify them of your sickness before the end of the first qualifying day of a period of incapacity for work. They must be willing to accept notification from someone else on your behalf.
If you post your notification, your employer should treat it as having been given on the day it was posted. If your employer has not given you a time limit, they must still accept notification of sickness, if it is given in writing within seven days of the first qualifying day. See

for what sort of evidence of sickness you need to give your employer.
