13. Simpler methods
It may be suggested that you would need less attention or supervision from another person if you used certain aids or tried simpler methods. A typical simpler method is the use of a commode or portable urinal. If you could use one without help, it is usually concluded that you do not reasonably require help with trips to the toilet.
Sometimes an assumption is made that you can use a commode, but all the practical issues involved (eg privacy, hand washing, etc) have not been considered, nor the effect on your morale or general health if trips to the toilet are your only regular exercise. In any case, you might actually need help using the commode. Emptying and cleaning the commode can count as attention if it needs to be done right away (as it generally would be during the day if not necessarily at night) ( ).
